Taking a person’s life as a form of punishment is definitely a very serious issue that many states and countries around the world are still debating until now. Based on capital punishment facts, this type of sentence has already been used even during ancient times. But its history does not necessarily mean that people today must still continue to give out death sentence penalties to criminals. Identifying the advantages and disadvantages of this penalty will help in the talks about capital punishment.

The first advantage of capital punishment is that it can help decrease the crime rate of the area. Because capital punishment is a serious penalty, people can be more aware of the law in the country and they will be more attuned to following the law. Another advantage is the peace of mind and relief afforded to the friends and families of serious crime victims such as murder, mass murders, and serial killings.

This type of punishment also has disadvantages and one of them is its violation of human rights. Human rights advocates are very vocal on their campaign against capital punishment or death penalty. This is because these advocates are not a hundred percent sure that the law system can perform a serious investigation that could conclude the true events of the crime.
